Google improves its search results for “deals” queries

Google is improving deal search results and introducing a dedicated feed for discounted products in the Shopping tab.

When people search for deals, Google now displays a new set of search results.

Searches for “deals” and “Black Friday” will bring up a special feed of discounted products in Google Shopping.

Furthermore, the new feed can be accessed at any time from the Shopping tab without the need for a specific query.

All Google Shopping products with a “deals” badge are eligible to appear in the feed.

Google is releasing new ways for merchants to measure the performance of deals, as well as new integrations with Shopify and WooCommerce, with this update.

Here’s more information about the changes to Google Search and Shopping that are now available.

Google Shopping Deals in Search Results

By adding a deals badge to qualifying products, merchants can target deal-seeking customers.

In Google Merchant Center’s product tab, you can see which of your products are eligible for a deals badge.

Promotions, sales, and price drops are all eligible for inclusion in the news feed.

According to Google, it will select which product to highlight based on “the attractiveness of the offer and the discount.”

It doesn’t sound like you can slash a high-priced item by $5 and slap a deals badge on it and expect to get much attention.

Google wishes to highlight significant discounts and competitive price drops that provide real value to customers.

Deal Performance Can Be Measurable

In an updated dashboard in Google Merchant Center, merchants can track the performance of products with a deals badge.

Impressions, clicks, and click-through rates are the metrics used to assess performance.

Data can be categorized according to promotion type, product, brand, and category.

With this data, merchants can easily identify their top performing Deals, which types of deals are driving the most conversions, and which categories perform best when on-sale.

Shopify and WooCommerce integration

Retailers who use Shopify or WooCommerce can now display their existing deals on Google surfaces.

The update, which will be available next month, will allow businesses that use Shopify’s Google channel and WooCommerce’s Google Listings and Ads to display deals within Google Search and the Shopping tab.

New and existing Deals can be synced with Google products directly from the store dashboard.
