More businesses can now access Twitter Professional Profiles

All businesses can now apply for a professional Twitter profile, which gives them access to exclusive features.

Twitter is now opening up applications for professional profiles to all interested businesses, following an initial rollout to a small test group.

Professional profiles, which were introduced in April, transform a standard profile into one that is more business-focused.

For the past six months, a small group of businesses in the United States has been testing Twitter’s new profile option.

It is now ready for a wider release.

Businesses were previously required to be invited by Twitter in order to gain access to a professional profile.

If a company wants to upgrade, it can now fill out an application form on Twitter.

Businesses that meet a basic set of eligibility criteria will be approved.

More information about Twitter’s professional profiles, including what you can do with them and how to apply for one, can be found here.

What is a Twitter Professional Profile?

A professional profile is a free upgrade to standard profiles that is available to those with professional accounts as an option.

A professional profile can be used to display information that a standard profile cannot.

On their upgraded profile page, businesses, publishers, developers, and creators can display the following information:

  • Business Location: Listed in the profile and visually displayed on a small map. People can open Google Maps and get directions by tapping on the location map/listing.
  • Hours of operation (optional): Display the days and times when customers can visit your physical location.
  • Contact information: Allow customers to contact your company via any or all of the following channels:
    • Contact via phone
    • Message via text
    • Twitter Message in Person
    • Email

The ‘about module’ is the name given to this collection of data.

Furthermore, a professional profile grants access to enhanced features that businesses with a standard profile do not have.

Twitter is still working on developing those features. Today, a couple of examples that can be added to a professional profile are:

  • Newsletter module: Add a subscribe button to your profile so that users can easily sign up for a mailing list.
  • Shop module: This allows your company to display a product carousel at the top of the profile page.

Who Qualifies for a Twitter Professional Profile?

Professional Accounts

You must first have a professional Twitter account in order to qualify for a professional profile.

From the settings screen, select “Switch to Professional” to convert a standard account to a professional account.

Twitter will then walk you through the rest of the process.

Other Eligibility Requirements

In addition to having a professional account, your company must meet the following requirements:

  • Have a physical location where clients or customers can do business with you.
  • Be based in the United States and use English on Twitter.

If that criterion is met, you can proceed to fill out an application form.

It should be noted that any business can apply, but Twitter will review each application to ensure that the business qualifies.

How to Create a Twitter Professional Profile

To confirm their eligibility for a professional profile, businesses must fill out a brief form.

The form requests your company’s name, address, contact information, and business hours.

After you submit your application, Twitter will contact you via email to confirm or deny your eligibility.
