Through an expansion of the green screen feature, YouTube creators can now remix any video on the platform into a Short.
Previously, you could use green screen to make Shorts out of other YouTube videos.
You can now use any YouTube video as the background for a short video.
You can overlay footage of yourself on top of the background video using a green screen effect.
This function is frequently used to react to or provide commentary on other videos.
It can also be used in a comedic context. You could, for example, superimpose yourself over one of the characters in a well-known video.
With the green screen effect, there are more options than ever before for making creative short videos.
YouTube Shorts + Green Screen
A YouTube representative stated in an announcement:
“Green Screen is the latest way to remix with Shorts – building on Cut that began to roll out last month. With Green Screen, you can use any eligible YouTube video or Short as the background for your original Short video.“
You’ll be able to use other YouTube videos with or without sound.
To use Green Screen, go to the video you want to use and choose to Create > Green Screen from the drop-down menu.
Read Private: YouTube Statistics for Your Business.
Alternatively, select Green Screen from the 3-dot menu in the Shorts player.
The maximum duration you can make is 60 seconds.
When their content is remixed into a Short, creators will receive full credit for the original video, which opens up a whole new audience for them.
Music videos and other videos with visual claims are the only types of content that cannot be sampled.
You can opt-out of having your content used in a Short by changing a setting in YouTube Studio.
Green Screen is gradually becoming available on the iOS YouTube app. It will be available to everyone on iOS and Android in the coming months.
