In a post on The Keyword blog and on Twitter today, Google announced the launch of ‘Google for Creators.’
“Creators deserve a program that is all about their success, and focuses on control, ownership, growth, and community,” said Creator Advocate Paul Bakaus. With the launch of Creators today, we’ve moved one step closer to our goal. Google!”
According to him, the launch represents a brand refresh and strategic shift from ‘Google Web Creators’ to ‘Google for Creators.’
So, why the shift? It’s only three letters long.
In 2020, Google launched Web Creators as a collection of channels for online publishers.
“A web creator could be a blogger, a photographer with a website, or a journalist—anyone who places their content on the open web,” Google Web Creators lead Matt Ludwig wrote at the time.
“…[the rebrand] signals that we’ll now help all creators on their journeys, not just bloggers,” Bakaus explained today.
“Because we are convinced that the web as an additional channel or home base is critical for many creators,” he added. It provides creators with opportunities to earn more passive income, to own their relationship with their audience, and to monetize in a variety of ways.”
According to Julia Lee, Google’s Engineering Director, Search Ecosystem, the rebranded Google for Creators is “a new home base for creators to learn, grow, and be inspired.”
She claims that the new educational resource “demonstrates how the web can become part of your content mix.”
Google for Creators resources assist marketers and content creators in achieving four main goals:
- Learn the fundamentals.
- Create a content strategy.
- Engage and attract followers.
- Grow your business and make money.
The experience begins on the homepage with a quiz to help assess the visitor’s goals and surface the most relevant content.
Expert content creators, social media influencers, successful digital marketers, and bestselling authors contribute to the guides.
Of course, Google products and tools are heavily used in the lessons for content creation, promotion, and measurement.
Visitors can learn how to use Web Stories more effectively, for example. According to Lee, over 200 million Web Stories have been published to date, and Google hopes to help creators use them to reach a wider audience with its insider tips.
Visitors can also access a guide to Search Console Insights created specifically for content creators.
This resource is unlikely to reveal any secrets about search engine rankings. However, it is a useful tool for content creators and professionals, particularly those who are new to the industry.
When Google publishes a guide titled “How to Create Good Content,” we should at the very least read it.
In addition to the guides on the website, Google for Creators can be found on Instagram and Twitter. For those who want to hear from the program more frequently, there is an email newsletter.
Upcoming events such as Creator Conf billed as the world’s largest event for creators, are also listed in the site’s Creator Community section.
