12 phrases students should not say at the job interview

Getting an invitation to an interview is nice. But this is only the first stage of evaluating a candidate (exactly the same as, for example, selection by resume). The employer invites several applicants for the position for an interview. In order not to be “at the end of the queue”, try not to make mistakes. In addition, you should not come exhausted from the interview. To avoid that I preferred to pay someone to write my paper for me. There are at least 12 phrases that can spoil the impression of you and prevent you from getting the desired position.

It’s *** cold outside!

Watch your language, be polite, and at all costs, avoid swearing. An interview is not the place where it is necessary to swear. Try to refrain from obscene language (even if it’s -30 °C outside the window!). Build a dialogue without swearing, and the recruiter will see you as a cultured and well-mannered person.

Why did I quit my last job? I was fired

Even if this is true, do not rush to go into details. There is no need to lie, just smooth out the corners and generalize. For example: “My boss and I had different views on how our department should function. So I decided that I would be more useful elsewhere. Let’s say in your company.” Focus on the fact that you have gained experience that can be useful in a new place. Be positive.

My former boss is a real devil

No matter how difficult your relationship with your former manager may be, try not to discredit his reputation:

you could have misunderstood everything. Perhaps the boss gave you more assignments than others because he believed in your strength and competence;

having heard the denigrating words addressed to former colleagues, the recruitment manager can predict what parting with you will be like after dismissal. Who needs notoriety?

So what are you doing here?

Before you go for an interview, find information about the company — about its activities and access to foreign markets, about the head office and branches, about the founders and the history of the promotion, etc. Search for information not only on Google but also on LinkedIn and other social media. This way you will show that you are prepared (believe me, it will be appreciated), which means that you are interested in this position. Tell us what you can offer the company as an employee.

I just need a job

More like a voice of despair… Believe me, the employer does not want to see employees in their office who hang out during working time for the sake of salary. The manager needs a team where everyone is interested in the development of the company. Profits will grow — there will be bonuses. Therefore, try to prove that you are ready to make every effort for the sake of the overall result.

I’m looking for the perfect place for me

The recruiter will be 99% sure that such a person will quit again after a few months. The employer is interested in a long-term employment relationship.

Such a phrase will show not so much your selectivity as your loss. Every company needs self-sufficient employees who want to develop and offer ideas. Including working conditions. Do you want to change something? Don’t be afraid! Usually, those who make worthy proposals are met halfway.

Your company is a springboard for my career

Often, this phrase is understood as the intention of the applicant to get a valuable line in the resume, which will later allow him to take a more prestigious or profitable position, but in another company.

However, the employer, as already mentioned, is interested in a long-term cooperation. It is better to ask about career growth opportunities — this way you will show that you want to develop within his company/ organization.

I don’t know

Interviewers are often asked to answer a number of questions that determine the level of professional competence. If you don’t really know the answer, say the following: “I will clarify and answer a little later.”

Practical tasks (like “How many ping-pong balls will it take to fill this room?”) are needed to test the course of your thoughts and the ability to build algorithms. Start thinking out loud: “First we calculate the volume of the room, then we subtract the volume of furniture …”. At the same time, show your communication skills.

My only flaw is overzealousness

Most likely, the HR manager will take this remark for guile. As well as the statement that you have no flaws in principle. Try to give an example of something that is not directly related to the position.

For example, fear of public speaking. But don’t forget to mention that you are working on it: “In the last workplace, I intentionally often spoke to the team, and it helped — now there is practically no problem.”

What bonuses does your company offer?

Do not start talking about these ahead of time. The benefits provided, as well as the number of wages, are announced based on the results of the interview. Ask ahead of time — you will seem like a person who is interested only in material benefits. It is better to ask more questions related to specific job tasks and responsibilities.

Endless “Sorry”, “Thank you”

Try not to abuse apologies. Today, it is more a sign of self-doubt than of culture and intelligence. Ask for forgiveness only when it is really necessary (for example, if you accidentally spilled water).

Words of gratitude are also not always appropriate. For coffee, the time is taken or the fact that you were escorted to the elevator – of course, quiet. For each answer to the question – not at all.

“Uh”, “like”, “well”, “so to speak”

Words like this can spoil the first impression. “If a person is careless in his speech, then in real life, most likely, too,” the recruiter will think. Before you go to an interview, think about what you will talk about, and rehearse your speech.
