Google announced in a blog post that HTTPS has become a signal for its search ranking algorithms.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201c\u2026 over the past few months we\u2019ve been running tests taking into account whether sites use secure, encrypted connections as a signal in our search ranking algorithms. We\u2019ve seen positive results, so we\u2019re starting to use HTTPS as a ranking signal.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

When this update first went live, Google stated that HTTPS would be a “lightweight” ranking signal.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

That appears to be the case even today; Google’s Gary Illyes stated that the idea of increasing the ranking signal was discussed but that the team decided against it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
