{"id":1574,"date":"2021-10-02T10:17:00","date_gmt":"2021-10-02T10:17:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/seopolarity.com\/blog\/?p=1574"},"modified":"2021-11-12T06:35:52","modified_gmt":"2021-11-12T06:35:52","slug":"typical-audience-retention-data-is-now-available-on-youtube","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/seopolarity.com\/blog\/typical-audience-retention-data-is-now-available-on-youtube\/2021\/","title":{"rendered":"&#8216;Typical Audience Retention&#8217; Data is now available on YouTube"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>YouTube is changing the way it reports on audience retention in order to make it easier for creators to understand what works and what doesn&#8217;t.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Last year, channels in YouTube Studio gained access to audience retention insights.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This section of YouTube Analytics reports on &#8220;key moments&#8221; in videos that received positive feedback from viewers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It&#8217;s intended to assist YouTube creators in determining what resonates with their viewers and what works in terms of their content.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Channels have had the opportunity to review the data and apply the findings to their content creation strategies since the release of the key moments for the audience retention report.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>One of the most common pieces of feedback YouTube has received is that it would be useful to know what works and what doesn&#8217;t when it comes to audience retention.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In response to the feedback, YouTube has added a new segment of data called typical audience retention.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This data will appear in the form of a grey band across various charts in YouTube Analytics, making it easy to compare actual performance to typical performance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As an example, consider the screenshot below:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"680\" height=\"322\" src=\"https:\/\/seopolarity.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/11\/screen-shot-2021.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-1575\" srcset=\"https:\/\/seopolarity.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/11\/screen-shot-2021.png 680w, https:\/\/seopolarity.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/11\/screen-shot-2021-300x142.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 680px) 100vw, 680px\" \/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>You can get a high-level overview of your entire channel&#8217;s key moments, as well as a more detailed analysis of engaging moments in a single video.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Here&#8217;s how to locate each of these data sets.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-key-moments-in-youtube-videos\">Key Moments in YouTube Videos<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>By going to YouTube Studio, selecting one of your uploaded videos, and clicking on Analytics, you can find a per-video analysis of key moments.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Scroll down from there to find key moments for audience retention.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>These are specific moments in a video when retention exceeds normal patterns. The small spikes that appear throughout the chart represent video chapters.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The first thing you&#8217;ll notice is an analysis of the intro that compares its current performance to the average performance of your previous 30 videos.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This analysis allows you to keep track of what works and what doesn&#8217;t when it comes to introductions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>By clicking on the Top moment tab on that same page, you can find the most engaging part of a video.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>YouTube will display a congratulatory banner with the words:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p>\u201cNice work!
