YouTube is introducing new features to reward channel members in a manner similar to how Twitch subscribers are rewarded.
The new perks may encourage more users to sign up for paid memberships, resulting in more revenue for creators.
Here’s more information on YouTube channel memberships and the new perks.
Milestones in YouTube Channel Membership
Before we get into the news update, let’s clear up some jargon.
What exactly is a “Member” of a YouTube Channel?
YouTube channels that participate in the company’s monetization program are eligible to offer supporters paid memberships.
A “member” of a channel is a supporter who pays a monthly fee in exchange for exclusive content.
This is distinct from a channel “subscriber,” who follows the channel for free.
On Twitch, the term “subscriber” means the polar opposite: someone who pays a recurring monthly fee to support the creator.
What Benefits Does a YouTube Channel Member Receive?
Both YouTube “members” and Twitch “subscribers” receive a set of benefits that are becoming more comparable over time.
Custom badges and emojis, exclusive videos, members-only livestreams, and access to a feed of community posts are currently available to channel members.
Membership milestones are now available as a perk for those who keep their membership active from month to month on YouTube.
A membership milestone enables a user to send a highlighted message during a livestream highlighting how long they’ve been a member.
Twitch gives recurring subscribers a similar benefit, allowing them to send one highlighted message for free with each subscription renewal.
This has value for supporters because it usually costs money to send highlighted messages during live chats.
Super Chats and Super Stickers, both of which users must pay for, are other options for sending a highlighted message during a YouTuber’s livestream.
This feature is available to members who have been a member for at least two months.
Each month that a member remains active, they can send one special highlighted message during a Livestream.
Membership milestone messages will be highlighted in live chats in the same way that new members are now celebrated.
They are highlighted in green and are pinned to the live chat ticker for a set period of time. They will also be visible in the live control room’s viewer activity tab.

How Can This Assist Creators?
This feature can help YouTube creators gain more channel subscribers.
When people see the membership milestone messages in the chat, they may be inspired to sign up for themselves.
According to the company, the goal of launching this feature is to increase the value offered to channel members with no additional effort from the creator.
This could help to increase the number of members and encourage them to stay for a longer period of time.
