Google My Business Changes to Insights & Video Uploads

Google My Business's performance reports are being updated with data from search results. Another recent change is that GMB has reduced the size of video uploads.

In a series of updates to performance reports, Google My Business is giving business owners more data to work with.

The ability to see how many times a business profile appeared in search results is the most important of these updates.

Google is reducing the maximum size of videos uploaded to GMB in an unrelated but also recent update.

Google My Business Insights has undergone some changes

Data Business profile performance reporting is becoming more detailed and user-friendly.

New metrics are being added, and business owners will be able to view data directly from their profiles.

To begin, Google is incorporating insights into interactions. This information will inform business owners how frequently people have contacted them after viewing their GMB profile.

More metrics will be added in the coming months, including detailed reports on searches and the number of people who saw a business profile in search results.

In the coming months, data from Google Maps searches will also be available in performance reporting.

The information being added has never previously appeared on the Google My Business Insights page.

As local marketers can attest, a Google My Business profile can be just as effective as a website in attracting customers. Sometimes it is even more critical.

Having quick access to important search results metrics can assist marketers in making GMB profiles more impactful.

The data will be accessible for up to 6 months. Business owners will be able to assess their performance by comparing data over custom time frames.

Interaction metrics will be updated on a daily basis, while other metrics will be updated on a monthly basis.

How to Examine the Google My Business Performance Report

To review the new metrics from your business profile, navigate to the performance reporting section as shown below:

  • Check that you’re logged in with the same account that you used to sign up for Google My Business.
  • Search Google for your exact business name to find your Business Profile.
  • To manage your Business Profile, select View profile if necessary.
  • Select Promote, followed by Performance.
  • Select a date range for your report at the top of the page and click Apply.

If you only have one business, you can get insights at business.google.com/locations.

Modifications to Video Uploads

Another significant change that marketers should be aware of is a reduction in the maximum size of videos that can be uploaded to Google My Business.

The maximum filesize for videos uploaded to Google My Business is now 75MB, down from 100MB previously.

The file size change is also mentioned in an update to this Google My Business help page.

Users are also reporting difficulties uploading images, particularly product images, but there have been no confirmed changes in this area.

Google did not explain why it reduced the file size of video uploads.
