Google Business Profiles sets waiting period for new owners and managers

Newly granted users must now wait 7 days before they can manage all of the profile's features.

Google updated its Google Business Profile, formerly Google My Business, to help documents to state that when you add a new owner or manager to a business profile, those new users may have to wait seven days before they can manage all of the profiles features.

New limits

These new limits are documented here, but I discovered them via Ben Fisher’s blog, as stated.

When a new owner or manager joins an existing Business Profile, they must wait 7 days before they can manage all of the profile’s features. During this 7-day period, the new owner or manager will receive an error if they attempt to do any of the following:

  • Delete or restore a profile.
  • Other owners or managers should be removed from a profile.
  • Change the primary owner of a profile to themselves or a third user.
  • An existing owner or manager attempts to transfer primary ownership of the profile to a new owner or manager who is still in their first 7 days on the job.

If the new owner or manager deletes their account within the first 7 days, their profile is removed. If they restore their account, they must be re-added to the profile.

Why we care

So, if you added new owners and/or managers to a Google Business Profile and that user is unable to manage all of the features for that business listing, this is the reason. It’s a new restriction imposed by Google, possibly to improve security and prevent fraud or hacking attempts.
